JB Music Therapy is a business corporation in Alberta, Canada, owned by Jennifer Buchanan. She has been the sole owner since the company’s inception in 1991. The company was incorporated October 2005.
HISTORY
JBMT served its first client (Scenic Bow Legion Group Home 104) the second Friday of September in 1991 in Calgary. In 1993 JBMT hired its first contractor. In 1994 JB Music Therapy began to serve clients in the immediate rural communities surrounding Calgary including Project HOPE in Strathmore, Alberta. Over the years more business alliances and other partnerships have enhanced JBMT’s growth in Alberta. Today JBMT is proud to bring music therapy programs to Edmonton, Red Deer, Strathmore, Cochrane, Didsbury, High River and Gleichen.
JBMT has one of the most advanced music therapy internship sites in Canada - over 25 national and international students have completed a JBMT internship.
In 2000 JBMT hired an external consultant to begin the development of children's Music Express camps. These camps now serve over 100 children per year. In 2007 the addition of a music therapy program for young adults that we have coined "Meet Up" was able to start in due part to the financial support of the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund. JBMT has developed a small product line to support these programs along with conference keynotes, training and workshops.
Today JBMT brings music therapy to over 1600 individuals in over 130 agencies, schools, hospitals and private residences every month.
